Alykhan Velji and Kelly Kask have been friends and worked together since 2003. They hit it off instantly after working together on a charity initiative called Designer Showcase and are thrilled to present SALVAGE at the Reclaimed Trading Company in historic Ramsay.
Alykhan Velji has been involved in the design industry for 10 years, specializing in both residential and commercial design. In addition to his growing client base, Alykhan is one of Canada's most recognizable design personalities.
It all started in the fall of 2005, when he was invited to compete on HGTV's “Designer Superstar Challenge,” where he placed in the top three. He was then asked by HGTV to be the assistant stylist on the first season of “The Style Dept” with Suzanne Dimma.
His long list of media accomplishments includes: design team captain on two seasons of City TV's “My Rona Home,” monthly expert appearances on The Marilyn Show and a regular column in the Calgary Herald. Aly is also one half of “The Style Guys.” With partner Jason Krell, the two can be seen on E!'s “Celebrity Style Story” and heard on weekly on 98.5 Virgin Radio. They are also the spokespeople for Crossiron Mills hosting all media segments for the shopping outlet.
Alykhan has been called a “A Guru of Décor,” “One of Calgary's Hottest Interior Decorators,” and as one of the “Top 20 most compelling Calgarians.” He was shortlisted for Western Living Magazine's 2010 Designer of the Year Awards, named one of Avenue Magazines' Top 40 Under 40 in 2010 and most recently named A 2011 Leader of Tomorrow by Business in Calgary Magazine.
Kelly Kask is the Founder of Reclaimed Trading Company has been working in the commercial interiors business for 10 years. Throughout his career he as seen an uncountable amount of waste taken to landfill, prompting the creation of the Reclaimed. He started doing architectural salvage out of his garage seven years ago, and just finished moving into a new 6,000 sq ft reclaimed, reused, repurposed warehouse in Ramsay.
His passion for the environment is only matched by his love of antiques and saving solid building materials. Whether he is salvaging cedar from Calgary's courthouse or removing old growth fir from a cannery in BC, he loves the idea of diverting materials from the landfill and creating beautiful pieces of furniture.
